Underground Mine Planning Engineer

About the role

The Underground Mine Planning Engineer will develop and maintain short‑ and medium‑term mine plans and schedules that align with the approved Life of Mine strategy, budget and operational goals. This role ensures that planning outputs support safe, efficient and cost‑effective underground operations while integrating design and operational constraints.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain 12‑week rolling plans and weekly schedules, ensuring they are practical, safe and executable.
• Prepare and update short‑ and medium‑term schedules in line with sequencing strategy and operational constraints.
• Monitor plan‑versus‑actual performance, identify variances and drive corrective actions.
• Design and update underground development and stope layouts, incorporating geotechnical, ventilation and operational constraints.
• Collaborate with Survey, Geotechnical, Ventilation and Operations teams to ensure design alignment.
• Support drill and blast planning within approved mining methodologies.
• Maintain integrity of planning models and scheduling databases; generate regular reports for management.
• Review contractor planning submissions for technical accuracy and alignment.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities in planning workflows.
• Mentor junior planning engineers and national staff.

Required profile

• Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years experience in underground hard‑rock mining with strong exposure to mine planning and scheduling.
• Experience in mechanised long‑hole open stoping environments.
• Experience working alongside underground mining contractors (advantageous).
• Strong understanding of underground mining methods and sequencing logic.
• Proven ability to develop short‑ and medium‑term plans and validate production forecasts.
• Knowledge of drill and blast planning principles for mechanised underground operations.
