Underground Mine Operations Superintendent

About the role

The Underground Mine Operations Superintendent leads and governs contractor‑executed underground mining activities, ensuring they are carried out safely, efficiently and in line with approved mine plans and production targets. This senior position provides operational leadership, maintains compliance with company standards and statutory requirements, and drives delivery of development and production in a long‑hole open stoping environment.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and oversee contractor‑executed underground mining to meet approved development and production schedules.
• Monitor production against metres, tonnes, dilution and cost targets, initiating corrective actions when needed.
• Maintain a strong underground presence to verify execution quality, sequencing and operational discipline.
• Ensure backfilling (CRF), stope extraction and development activities follow approved technical designs.
• Manage contractor performance against KPIs, safety standards and contractual obligations.
• Conduct regular underground inspections to verify compliance with mine designs, HSE requirements and regulatory obligations.
• Lead safety leadership, hazard identification, risk mitigation and incident investigations.
• Coordinate with technical services to align contractor work with drill‑and‑blast designs and ground support specifications.

Required profile

• Proven experience in supervising underground mining operations, preferably in long‑hole open stoping environments.
• Strong knowledge of mining safety, HSE regulations and statutory mining obligations.
• Ability to enforce operational discipline, contractual accountability and quality standards.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills to manage contractor teams and engage with senior management.
